James' injury blow comes just weeks after he recovered from his lengthy injury layoff to return to the team.

In the past two years, Reece James has struggled with a niggling injury crisis that has impacted his career heavily. Since 2022/23 season, the 24-year-old has played only 24 Premier League games for Chelsea, and have spent a greater part of the two seasons on the sidelines. The game against Everton was his first start for Chelsea since November 25.

Against hopes of returning to elite-level performance for the Blues following his return, the Three Lions defender is now set for a fresh spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea confirmed in a club statement he has picked up a harmstring injury and will be sidelined again for months, returning to the medical room for rehabilitation and recovery.

"Scan results have confirmed a hamstring injury," the club confirmed.

"Reece [James] will now begin his rehabilitation programme at Cobham."

James injury blow has deepened Chelsea's injury crisis with the likes of Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Charlobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chillwell, Malo Gusto all languished on the sidelines.

Amidst the deepening injury crisis, Chelsea's Premier League fortunes this season have hit the rocks. After a sustained series of improved performances against big teams, the Blues have stumbled to three defeats in their last four matches, and are down on the bottom half of the table after 15 games.

They suffered defeat in their last game against Everton. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to return the team to winning ways when they host Sheffield United in their next Premier League clash on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
