Popular Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels has revealed that she didn't know there was a cashless policy as at the time there Naira was being redesigned. Regina shared her experience after she was trolled online for posting a snap of some cash in that particular period.
Regina Daniels is an actress and also the wife of the popular Nigerian billionaire, Ned Nwoko. She recently granted an interview on BBC Pidgin and here she revealed how she was criticized for posting cash when there was scarcity of cash in the country.
She revealed that she was unaware of the cash scarcity during the Naira Redesign Policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria. She stated that she doesn't make use of cash so she didn't even know until the day her post caused a stir on social media.
Recall that the CBN had designed the N200, N500 and N1000 Naira notes earlier this year and during this period, there had been scarcity of cash which led to serious hardship. During this period, many Nigerians had to male use of online transfers but even the banks had some issues. In that same period, Regina Daniels shared a post on her Instagram page flaunting a bunch of new Naira notes which her husband had given her and this had caused serious backlash.
She stated "I don’t use cash to buy anything at all, infact I don’t hold cash, so during that cashless policy, I was not even aware that there was such policy, because I don’t use cash. So I did not really see it from other people’s perspective that there was a crisis in the country, until I posted. I told my husband then to send me some cash because I wanted to buy food at a location. So, he sent the cash and I made a Snapchat and posted it. When I started seeing people’s reactions, I was surprised until I was told of the cashless policy. seeing how many people reacted to it, I had to delete the post. But that time I really felt bad because people won’t understand that I did not really know.”
