Rema and Selena Gomez win best Afrobeats at Video Music Awards (VMAs)

Popular Nigerian musician Rema and Selena Gomez's hit song Calm Down has made history and the duo won the Best Afrobeats award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) which was held recently.

Selena Gomez who is a singer, songwriter, actress and businesswoman featured on Rema’s song Calm Down which is in his Raves and Roses album of 2022.The collaboration between the two music stars has led to recurring breaking of records and nominations in various award shows.

The award show was held yesterday, Tuesday September 12 2023 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The Video Music Awards (VMAs) is an awards show which recognises and celebrates music stars and talents across the globe.

The song Calm Down earned 3 nominations in various categories like categories of Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, and Best Afrobeats and they bagged the Best Afrobeats award. They won against the other nominees including Davido, Burna Boy, Libianca, Ayra starr, Wizkid and Fireboy DML.

This song has achieved much success ever since its release last year. The song recently became the first-ever track to remain on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart for a whole year and recently, it also hit 1 billion streams on Spotify.
