Residential building comprising of 500 rooms collapses in Lagos state
A residential building comprising of over 500 rooms in lagos state recently collapsed partially. The building was originally a school which was eventually turned into a residential place. This incident occurred on Sunday, September 17 2023.
This building is known as Agboye Estate on Oduntan Street, located in Ketu in Lagos state. The building having over 500 rooms has hundreds of occupants living there. The building collapsed partially and at least 2 people were injured from the incident. These victims have been rushed to a private hospital for medical treatment.
A part of the building first caved in on Saturday afternoon and this was after a prolonged heavy rainfall in Lagos state. By the following day, Sunday, while many residents in the began to move their belongings out of the building, another part of the building collapsed again.
Many of the residents out of fear hurriedly packed what they could out of the building. Hundreds of individuals and families have vacated the premises. The building has also been sealed of by the officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
All the buildings in this compound have been marked for demolition by the officials as most of them were defective. Ever since the incident on Sunday, the landlord of Agboye Estate is no where to be found.
