Antony and Manchester United ex-players were locked in war of words following reports of dressing room chaos at Carrington
United came under the wires after they suffered a factory-resetting defeat to Newcastle United after a three-match winning run in November.
ESPN, The Mirror, Manchester Evening News, and SkySport all reported Erik ten Hag had lost 50% of Man United dressing room after the defeat to Newcastle United.
United responded swiftly to the report banning all the four media groups for malicious report without contacting the club.
United spokesperson said the club banned the media groups not for 'publishing stories they don't like' but for 'doing so without contacting the club to comment, argue, or contextualize' the stories.'
While Erik ten Hag was roasted by the media for his failing tactics and poor man-management skills, some Man United players such as Marcus Rashford and Antony, including Anthony Martial have been blamed for the club's poor performance this season.
The likes of Gary Neville particularly singled out Antony for his below-par performances, urging the player to improve his game.
Antony seemed unsettled by the criticisms from United's ex-players.
In a furious press rant, Antony blasted United's ex-players for not being constructive with their criticism but undermining the effort of the players and the manager.
Now, Rio Ferdinand has reacted to Antony's response. While sympathizing with the player on his personal ordeals which must have impacted his performance for the club, Ferdinand insisted the Brazilian winger must get used to the pressure that comes with wearing Man United badge.
Ferdinand said;
"Listen, I sympathise with Antony in some of things, he’s had a few big issues off the pitch. But listen, us ex-players, we aint a vindictive bunch, we’re not a personal bunch. None of us have called him out personally, we’re just saying what we see.'
''Listen, how many of these players are going to accept a DM from most of these guys who are talking? Listen bruv you need to sort yourself out, you need to start doing this or doing that. You think man are going to call you back and thank you for it? I doubt it very much.''
If there’s a player [that] isn’t doing and we think he should be doing, we’re within our rights in the job that we do to call it out. Simple as that.
Antony is still waiting for his first goal of the campaign, having gone 15 games in all competitions without finding the net for the Red Devils. In fact, the former Ajax star is yet to register a goal contribution of any kind.
He did turn in one of his best performances of the season in United's midweek win over Chelsea, which may have earned him another spot in the starting line-up for the weekend clash with Bournemouth.
