Former Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie revealed the reason Arsenal should be blamed for his shocking exit from the London side to Manchester United in 2012.
According to him, it was Arsenal who helped him to make up his mind by failing to offer him a new contract, and he never wanted to break the hearts of the Arsenal fans who tagged him as a traitor.
The former Dutch striker revealed the reason in an interview with The High Performance podcast, saying, "I get the criticism. But I can promise you, my kids, that if someone comes with proof that Arsenal offered me a deal, I will give you a million pounds now."
"It was Arsenal's decision not to offer me a deal, and that is up to them. After many conversations, it became clear that we had different ideas about the club."
"I had seven points where I thought Arsenal could improve, and in my opinion, they should start dealing with them right away to be able to compete with the best teams."
He joined Manchester United in 2012 and helped the club secure a Premier League title with more than 20 league goals.
After his tenure with Manchester United, Van Persie wanted a move to Arsenal in 2015, but the then manager, Arsene Wenger, was not interested in bringing the player back to the club.
After the move failed, he was sold to Fenerbahce in Turkey before finally moving to Feyenoord, where he ended up retiring in 2019.
The former Arsenal striker spent eight years in the Emirates, scoring 132 goals in 278 appearances, becoming the eighth-highest goal scorer.
The 40-year-old is now the youth manager of the Feyenoord academy, and he also helps in training the club's first-team squad.
