Olivier Glasner has replaced English football veteran Roy Hodgson as Crystal Palace manager.

Hodgson, 76, who took over the Eagles from Patrick Vieira last season, had difficult last days at the dugout at Selhurst Park.

Hodgson started on a bang on his return to Crystal Palace as manager, returning the team to winning ways and most importantly keeping them in the elite division after fighting hard in the drop zone.

This season, it has been a tale of disappointment from a dismal run. Crystal Palace are just four points away from the drop zone, sitting 15th on the table with 24 points from 24 games.

They have won three of their last 16 games in all competitions, and have lost three of their last four games in the Premier League. The Eagles were knocked out by Everton in the FA Cup after a replay and are treading close to the drop zone in the table.

It is understood Crystal Palace hierarchy were unfazed by the club's dwindling fortunes under Roy Hodgson, hence the decision to scour for his replacement.

Austrian football veteran Olivier Glasner, who has had spells with Lask, Wolfsburg, and Eintracht Frankfurt, was primed to succeed Hodgson with the 49-year-old said to have agreed on a two-year deal with the club.

According to the Sun, Crystal Palace were set to announce their decision to part ways with Roy Hodgson but the decision was delayed as the 76-year-old reportedly collapsed while in training session with the club ahead of their game against Everton.

He had to be rushed to the hospital with his assistant Paddy McCarthy taking charge of the training session. Due to the health emergency, the scheduled Everton pre-match press conference had to be canceled. However, it was later confirmed he is in a stable condition after being attended to at the hospital.

As of the time of filing this report, Crystal Palace have gone ahead to sack Roy Hodgson and announced Olivier Glasner as his replacement. The club have agreed to a two-year contract with Glasner till 2026 with the Austrian tasked to reverse the club's dwindling fortunes, beating the drop, and returning the team to winning ways.

Before the emergence of Olivier Glasner as Crystal Palace manager, other high-profile managers were linked to the job. Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter was reportedly contacted by the club but he turned down the offer. Former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui also made the list, including former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.

The club turned to Glasner after failed attempts to broker deals with the listed managers who have experience in English football.

Glasner first managed Reid and Lask in Austria before moving to Germany where he took up a managerial role with Wolfsburg and then Eintracht Frankfurt.

He has been regarded as one of the most successful Austrian managers in history with a track record of sporting success at his different clubs. Glasner guided Lask to promotion to the Austrian elite division. He qualified for the Champions League with Wolfsburg in Germany and won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.
