Rufus Giwa Polytechnic's first-semester examination is set to begin next Tuesday. However, the lecturers of the institution decided to commence strike because of their unpaid 13 months' salary, vowing not to participate in the examination.
The members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, RUGIPO chapter, agreed to this. The statement released and signed by the union's chairman, Arikawe Ade, and the secretary, Fapetu Damilola, stated that lecturers are clamoring for the full payment of the 13 months' salary. The union members also expressed the hardship they are facing due to the current hike in the price of petrol.
They said that the current economic situation has made it difficult for them to carry out their official duties as lecturers of the institution.
