Sanwo-Olu changes decision, orders payment of compensation to driver assaulted at #EndSARS Memorial
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that he has ordered that the driver that was assaulted in October 2021 during the EndSARS Memorial rally by some security operatives be paid compensation as the court had ordered.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a Nigerian politician and he is also the governor of Lagos State. He has been serving since 2019 and was recently reelected to be governor for a second term. He serves under the political party of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is a U-turn from the decision he made a few days back to reject this order by the court. The Lagos state government had filed an appeal against this judgement by the court that had ordered both the State and the police to pay N5 million as compensation to the driver who was tortured.
Mr Clement Adedotun, was the driver that was tortured during the EndSARS memorial at Lekki Toll-Gate.
Governor Sanwo-Olu shared a tweet on Saturday that the plan to appeal the matter has been changed.
He mentioned how he had reviewed the case and directed the Honorable Attorney General to set up a meeting and also pay the compensation to Mr Clement.
