Sanwo-Olu joins first ride as Lagos Blue line rail commences operations
The Governor of Lagos State Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu joined the first ride of the Lagos Blue line rail as it commenced operations recently. He revealed to the public that the Blue line rail has been completed and even shared that the construction of the redline light rail system from Ebute Metta to Agbado would also be ready by the end of this year.
He revealed this on Monday, September 4, 2023. He joined the inaugural ride on the blue line rail going from CMS Terminal to Mile-2 Station in Lagos. He alongside some officials like the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, former Speaker of the House of Assembly Adeyemi Ikuforiji, his wife Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and many others.
The ride they had joined from the Marina Terminal to Mile-2 took about 25 minutes in total.
The Managing director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, (LAMATA) Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, shared that the train rides will commence in the morning from 6:30am to 10am and afternoon from 4pm to 9:30pm.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also shared the news of the commencement of the blue rail operations via his Twitter recently.
He stated "Dear Lagosians, We began commercial operations for the long-awaited Blue Line Rail from Marina to Mile 2 as we put #LagosOnTrack together. With a starting 50% discount on all public transport fares with the Cowry Card, we are ensuring that Lagosians can move freely in pursuit of economic and leisure activities
The Blue Line Rail is equipped with state-of-the-art security features, including 300+ CCTV cameras and command centres at all stations as well as an independent power plant that ensures the trains can have uninterrupted movement. We are starting partial passenger operations from 6:30-10am and 4-9:30pm. We're kicking off with 12 trips for 2 weeks, gradually increasing to 76 trips/day. Remember, this is YOUR project, Lagos. Let's use it responsibly and with pride. There is no room for vandalism or disturbances.
The Blue Line Rail is one of the rail projects designed to make Lagos a fully interconnected city and it will transform our city's transport system.
