Saudi clubs are reportedly preparing a whooping £2bn transfer budget to sign more European footballers this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the floodgates for the massive influx of European footballers into the Saudi Pro League after his infamous transfer move from Manchester United to Al-Nassr in 2022.

Since the groundbreaking transfer move, the Saudi Pro League have become more appealing to European footballers. Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, French Ligue, and Bundesliga players, including top stars from other top leagues in Europe have moved to the SPL, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's influence.

The Saudi elite division now boasts of some of the biggest names in football such as Neymar Jr, Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporta, to mention but a few.

As the January transfer window opens, more players are likely to continue trooping to the league with Saudi clubs ready to splurge out a whooping £2billion to finance transfer deals, as per Ben Jacobs.

Additionally, Saudi football chiefs have reportedly identified Mohammed Salah of Liverpool, Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, and Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur as their prime targets.

For Mo Salah, it will be the second time Saudi clubs will throw their weight on the Liverpool legend after failing to strike a deal with Liverpool for the player last summer.

Saudi Pro League champions and Karim Benzema's club Al-Ittihad led the move for Salah and were ready to pay £150m for the player but were turned down by Liverpool. They are more likely to improve their offer for the player but it is yet to be determined whether will sanction the move as they consider Salah key to the squad.

Kevin De Bruyne is also on the Saudi radar as a top target but the Belgian playmaker is more likely to stay put with Manchester City with reports he will sign a new contract extension soon with the club.

Tottenham and South Korean star Son Heung-Min is also targeted. Son has been integral for Tottenham under their manager Ange Postecoglou. He is contracted to Spurs until 2025 and is reportedly set to commit to fresh terms with the club.
