Scott McTominay was again the posterboy as Manchester United defied the odds to defeat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League.

The Scottish striker scored the two goals that saw United took off the pressure on Erik ten Hag with the statement win over their fiercest domestic rivals.

After Bruno Fernandes missed a spotkick, Scott McTominay rose to the occasion to fire United into the lead few minutes later.

The Red Devils closed up on a first-half win but were pegged back at the death with Cole Palmer's 45th-minute equaliser.

In the second half, Scott McTominay again scored for United to bag his brace and secure all three points for the home side.

Obviously, United's win over Chelsea was a big relief for Erik ten Hag, who was coming under pressure following a factory-resetting defeat to Newcastle United.

After seemingly recovering from a dismal start to the campaign with a four-match winning run, ten Hag stumbled to a narrow defeat to the Magpies.

Following the loss, reports emerged he has lost half of Man United dressing room with his robotic, stringent, and regimented player and man-management style.

With major UK media outlets painting a picture of a destabilized Man United dressing room, the club reacted swiftly banning the media outlets from Erik ten Hag's press conference.

United spokesperson slammed the media groups for publishing stories without contacting the club to comment, argue, or contextualize the stories.

United needed the win against Chelsea to dispel rumors of Erik ten Hag losing control of his dressing room due to his stern player management style and rigorous training sessions.

While ten Hag must have salvaged his reputation in the glares of the British media, Scott McTominay has revealed ten Hag made some subtle changes to his training style to aid the win over Chelsea.

Speaking after the match, McTominay said the Dutch adopted a light training session to help players conserve energy ahead of the crucial encounter.

"Yes, our boss adopted a light training session to help the players keep up in shape and reserve energy for the match.

"It actually worked out as we were able to approach the game vigorously and with more energy," McTominay said.

It is believed ten Hag's swift change in approach to training must have been necessitated by the media backlash following the dressing room leaks which revealed some players were uncomfortable with his energy-sapping and rigorous training schedules.
