Seplat in search of new chairman as former chairman retires
Seplat Energy Plc has revealed that they will begin the process of recruitment to get a new board chairman. This is coming after Mr Basil Omiyi's retirement.
Recall Mr. Omiyi was appointed in 2022 and this was after the former chairman Dr ABC Orjiakor who had served for a very long time had resigned.
Mr Basil Omiyi had announced his retirement as the chairman on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 as announced in a statement.
His retirement will take effect before the company’s annual General meeting in May 2024.
The statement revoking this was signed by Mr Basil Omiyi who is still the current board chairman and he mentioned that the company has already developed a Board of Directors Succession Forward Plan. This is for the transition set to happen.
He also mentioned that they will embark on a recruitment process to search for the next chairman of seplat Energy
He mentioned that the independent non-executive directors who also qualify for this role will be evaluated. This is in line with their Company and Allied Matters Act.
It is said that the incoming chairman must already be a director or the company and he will have to be voted in by other directors.
Professor Fabian Ajogwu who is an independent non-executive director will also step down by October 2023. He also resigned from the board due to some external issues that happened recently.
