Seun Kuti arraigned in Lagos court over assault
Popular Nigerian Afrobeat musician, Seun Kutu has been tried in a Magistrate’s court sitting before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun. This took place in Yaba in Lagos.
It was the Lagos State Police Command qho made the arrest.
Oluwaseun Anikulapo Kuti is known popularly as Seun Kuti and he is the youngest son of Fela Kuti who is a renowned Afrobeat musician.
Seun Kutu was charged with Assault. Recall recently, he assaulted a policeman officer.
Seun had slapped a policeman on the 3rd mainland bridge in Lagos on the 13th of May.
S.A Adebese, who is the police prosecutor, requested that the court remand him for 21 days until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions gives legal advice.
Femi Falana SAN who led the counsel pleaded that the court doesn't rwman Seun Kuti who is his client.
Recall that after the assault, an order was made for Seun Kuti’s arrest and he had turned himself in to the police. This was on Monday.
He was then transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos.
The magistrate then remanded him for 48 hours in custody over this offense.
He will remain there till the police concluded their investigation then he will be granted bail of N1 million naira
The case has been adjourned till the 23rd of May, 2023.
