Hannibal Mejbri may tarry on the peripheries of Sevilla's setup following an undisclosed issue by the club.

Mejbri, 21, turned down Tunisia AFCON call-up with reports he wanted to sort out his future at Manchester United.

The former Monaco youth player's contract with Manchester United was set to expire at the end of the season. Despite struggling with cameo appearances off the bench, United weren't ready to lose Mejbri on a free transfer. The club extended his contract but opted to have the youngster complete the rest of the season on a short-term loan to possibly breathe life back into his career.

Hannibal Mejbri joined Sevilla on loan this January. He played his first match against Girona, coming off the bench. After the Girona match, Mejbri was dropped from the Sevilla squad in the Copa Del Rey match against Atletico Madrid. He was also axed off Sevilla's La Liga match against Osasuna.

As things stand, it appears the Tunisia international may end up with a dreary loan spell with the La Liga strugglers.

Revealing why he dropped Hannibal Mejbri from the Sevilla squad, Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores said Mejbri is struggling to adapt to the club. He added he has spoken to him, observed him play, and thinks he needs more time to get his axes right with the club.

"After being with him, talking to him, and having seen his first minutes in Girona, we are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla, and what it means.

''He has to know where he is and we want to see him. We have spoken with him and we believe that he has to have some time to learn, we wanted to give him space, and time for him to see things from the outside and then he will return to the squad.

What actually transpired with Mejbri is yet to be determined but the comment of Flores seemed to portray adaptation and disciplinary issues for the youngster.

''In the end, they are kids who have come and suddenly landed in a huge club like Sevilla in circumstances of maximum demand. And they need a bit of location. And that location may be seen better from the outside than from the inside. You should take a step to understand what we want."

''Let's see if the boy applies himself and I think that in the end, he will understand perfectly what we want,' he said.

It is the second time United have loaned Hannibal Mejbri away from Old Trafford. The 21-year-old was first loaned to Championship side Birmingham City where he made 38 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

He was back at Old Trafford after the expiration of his Birmingham loan tenure. Erik ten Hag fielded the youngster five times in the Premier League this season before the loan move to Sevilla. Mejbri scored a wonder goal in United's 3-1 loss to Brighton in the Premier League early this season. Despite the promising outing for the Red Devils, he was still down the pecking order in Erik ten Hag's midfield options, hence the decision to loan him away for regular exposure on the cuts and thrusts of professional football career.

Mejbri will be expected back at Old Trafford after the short-term loan move but his dwindling fortunes at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan could further dampen his Man United chances on return.
