Nigerian indigenous rapper Remilekun Abdulkhalid Safaru popularly known as Reminisce revealed that Nigerian gospel artist Shola Allyson inspired his hit song "Ponmile".
While speaking with Pop Central, Reminisce revealed that back in 2017, he realized he had no indigenous Yoruba song to his name despite being called Alaga Ibile meaning Chairman of the City.
Reminisce disclosed that Shola Allyson's love song "Eji Owuro" was a source of inspiration for his hit single "Ponmile". He said he tried reaching out to Shola Allyson to pay respect to her but she said she isn't into secular songs.
He added that it was around the time singer Olamide dropped the hit song "Wo". After that, he was supposed to drop his own song too because Olamide was planning on dropping songs till December that year.
After recording "Ponmile", Reminisce said people were in disbelief that he was the one who sang the song. He took the song to popular music video director Clarence Peters to hear his perspective on the song.
Reminisce said he told Clarence that he wanted Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola in the music video to make it more original. He couldn't find a female actress of his choice so they chose Nollywood actress Lota Chukwu. Reminisce said they shot the video and it became a widespread success.
Ponmile by Reminisce is one of the artist's major hit songs. It was released in 2017. In the song, Reminisce highlights the troubles men face in their relationships and marriages.
