Singapore Probes Potential Fraud Involving Nvidia AI Chips

Singaporean authorities are investigating a suspected fraud case involving servers that may have contained Nvidia AI chips, according to multiple reports citing the country’s Home Affairs and Law Minister, K. Shanmugam.

The servers, reportedly supplied by Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer, were first sold to local companies in Singapore before being shipped to Malaysia. Officials are examining whether the equipment was subsequently redirected to other destinations, raising concerns about potential violations of U.S. export controls.

Three individuals, including a Chinese national, are accused of misrepresenting the servers' intended end-users. The case has drawn attention amid broader scrutiny over the possible diversion of restricted Nvidia chips to Chinese AI firms. Investigators are looking into whether the hardware may have ultimately been funneled to DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, through intermediaries in Singapore.

Singaporean authorities have requested clarification from U.S. officials on whether the servers contained controlled items, stressing that the probe was launched independently after receiving an anonymous tip.

Nvidia, Dell, and Super Micro Computer have yet to respond to requests for comment.
