Popular Nigerian Singer, Naira Marley has revealed how his father banned speaking English in their home.
His full name is Azeez Adeshina Fashola, but he is popularly known as Naira Marley. He is a singer in his early 30s. Many know him as the president of his fan club 'Marlians'
The singer grew up in London, United Kingdom. He has now shared why he speaks Yoruba fluently even though he grew up abroad. The singer is well known for singing and rapping in Yoruba language.
He shared that the reason is because his dad had banned the use of English in their house. He didn't allow them to speak English, it was just Yoruba he allowed and that's what they spoke at home.
He revealed all this during an interview recently which he held with Cool FM Nigeria in Lagos State.
He shared that he grew up in Peckham in South-East London. He says that's like a mini Lagos. He says that all his life, he spoke yoruba because his dad banned speaking English. This 2 was what made it easy for him to blend with Nigerian street music.
He says that he still listens to Fuji, they would eat African food even though they were in London and all this makes it feel like they are still in Nigeria.
He shared that when he returned to Nigeria, many people didn't know he came from London.
He also went ahead to share how he could have been a footballer because he also played for Arsenal youth team while he was still in England.
