Popular Nigerian Singer Tems has been featured on the 2023 Times 100 Next list. The award-winning Nigerian superstar has made the Times 100 Next list and this is a list that recognises and celebrates 100 young notable people around the world.

Tems whose real name is Temilade Openiyi is a 28 year old artist who gained popularity after she was featured on Wizkid’s song Essence which was released in 2020. She is now one of the notable female musicians in Nigeria who has gained global recognition. This lists featured artists, advocates, leaders, innovators etc.

Tems featured alongside notable American stars like Hailey Bieber, Ice Spice, John Legend, Aurora James, Peso Pluma, Tyker James Williams and many others.

Tems is a Grammy Award winner and has also won 3 BET awards in the past. She is also an Oscar award nominee. She was the first Nigerian female singer to earn a Grammy award after winning the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance in Future's song titled 'Wait For U'.

Underneath her appearance on the list, Mary J Blige wrote a short profile about Tems. She described the singer to be in a class by herself and shared that she had a unique and original voice.

She said "Tems is in a class all by herself because no other artist sounds like her. That voice is so unique and original, so much so that it reminds me of the first time I heard Nina Simone. They both sing with emotion and conviction, making you feel every word they sing. When Tems and I finally had a chance to meet last year at the Grammy Awards, we just exploded on each other, giving each other so much love. I know she will make it far because she’s a talented writer, singer, and producer—my only hope for her is that she becomes one of the biggest artists of her time. Talent is one thing, but how you treat people and treat yourself in this industry brings longevity, and I believe she will be around for a while because she’s a beautiful human being inside and out."
