Singer Victony reveals the reason why he switched from rap/Hiphop music to afrobeats
Popular Nigerian singer Victony has revealed the reason why he switched from rap music to afrobeats.
Victony is a Nigerian musician and his real name is Anthony Ebuka Victor.
He recently revealed the reason behind the switch he made from Hiphop to afrobeats. This was during a recent interview on Teen Vogue’s Africa’s New Wave. He was here alongside another Nigerian musician BNXN and Ayra Starr.
He shared that the reason was because he wanted to “try something new.'' He revealed that it was the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown period that gave him the opportunity to discover himself.
He said the feeling during lockdown was very different, and this was what motivated him to try something new.
He then mentioned that after transitioning into Afrobeats, he realized that it was even much harder and this is because one of the key elements of Afrobeat is relatability.
He says that in Afrobeat, you have to be relatable, metaphoric and be very creative in writing songs.
He also shared that music is what helped him heal faster when he was in a wheelchair. Recall the singer had been involved in a terrible car accident which had claimed the life of his friend.
This accident left him in a wheelchair for a year after the crash.
He shared that he was motivated to finish his project and do more when fans receive the song he did with Mayorkun, ‘Holy Father’ positively.
