Manchester United are making plans to restructure the club's wage books in another big move by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Before his Manchester United takeover was approved, Sir Jim Ratcliffe threw his weight around Manchester United transfer policies and signings.
He particularly criticized the £60m signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid, including other high-end transfers that had cost the club millions of pounds with the club having nothing to show for it.
Now, according to the Mirror, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has told his newly recruited Chief Football Officer Omar Berrada to implement a new wage plan for Manchester United that will target cutting costs while improving the performance of the players.
Manchester United's wage bill is estimated at £330m, £70m less than cross-city rivals Manchester City. United are among the highest-spending clubs on players' wages with their highest-earning players paid between £350,000 to £250,000.
While City have matched their expenditure on wages with the requisite success on the field, Manchester United have only won one silverware in the last seven years.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly fixated on bucking the trend of negotiating contracts with over-bloated wage offers while the team continue to slack on the field.
Omar Berrada has been credited for a perfect job done at Manchester City to that effect. And Sir Jim Ratcliffe hopes he will implement the same at Manchester United.
Casemiro is the highest-paid Manchester United player with a weekly wage of £350,000 followed by Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial with £340,000 and £300,000, respectively.
The top three highest-paid players in Manchester United have struggled for form this season with Rashford spiraling down the pecking order with his poorest campaign in years for Manchester United.
Casemiro has struggled with reduced minutes due to injury while Raphael Varane recently regained his starting berth after struggling on the bench
