South African rapper Nasty C, born Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, has stated that Afrobeats and Amapiano are better than the hip-hop genre.
Recall that Nigerian Afrobeats maestro, Wizkid, recently stated that the hip-hop genre is dead and it isn't what it used to be several years ago. This resulted in an uproar online for several weeks with various artists dishing out opinions on whether the singer's stance was true or not.
Surprisingly, a similar statement was said by South African rapper Nasty C in a recent interview. Nasty C expressed that his native sound Amapiano and Afrobeats are better than hip-hop because the latter lacks substance. Nasty C said rap songs are mostly about women's bodies and the artist's voice is often covered in auto tune.
Afrobeats and Amapiano on the other hand, is filled with melodious tunes and artists who can truly sing. He stated that these two genres are evergreen while hip-hop is bound to fade away because rappers sample too many songs.
Nasty C opined that he is not in any way trying to talk down on the hip-hop genre because he is a rapper as well but hip-hop seems to have lost its sauce and substance.
