STANBIC IBTC BANK ENABLES LENDING OF BONDS, TREASURY BILLS

Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited has expanded its securities lending services to include fixed-income securities like treasury bills and sovereign bonds, allowing investors in the Nigerian capital market to diversify their portfolios and generate additional income. Previously, securities lending in Nigeria focused mainly on equities.

Mr. Babatunde Majiyagbe, Head of Investor Services at Stanbic IBTC Bank, stated that this expansion enhances market liquidity and provides clients with broader income opportunities. In 2023, the bank facilitated the lending of assets worth N150 million, reflecting strong demand for their services.

This development is expected to attract more investors and contribute to a more dynamic and efficient Nigerian capital market by supporting continuous trading and effective market-making activities. Stanbic IBTC remains the only active securities lending agent in Nigeria, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and market growth.
