Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has missed the Super Eagles' first training session ahead of the team's AFCON final showdown against Ivory Coast.

Nwabali's penalty-saving heroics saw Nigeria edge out the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to reach the final of the tournament.

After the semifinal victory over South Africa, the Super Eagles returned to their first training on Friday, February 9. It was noted that Stanley Nwabali was not part of the training.

The absence of the 2023 Nigeria AFCON hero has sparked concerns among Nigeria fans who are banking on his services as the Super Eagles prepare for the AFCON final showdown against Ivory Coast.

Amid nervy thoughts on the well-being of the former Lobi Stars goalkeeper, a source close to the Super Eagles squad revealed Stanley Nwabali was rested by the team's coaching crew for the training. He will be expected to make an appearance in the next training session before the final.

Nwabali pulled off a standout performance for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, saving two penalties against South Africa to hand the African giants a 4-2 shootout victory.

Before the South Africa cracker, Nwabali was a doubt for the Super Eagles quarterfinal and semifinal matches having picked up an injury in the round 16 clash against Cameroon.

He was, however, cleared to return on goal, and he starred in between the sticks with a goalkeeping heroics that catapulted Nigeria into the final of the tournament.

The Chippa United goalkeeper will be expected to start on goal as the Super Eagles rematched Group A opponents and tournament hosts Ivory Coast in a much-anticipated 2023 AFCON final showdown
