Start paying Senators the minimum wage, NLC member tells FG
An elderly member of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) tells the Federal Government to change the salaries of the Nigerian Senators to N30,000 for all to be fair. She said that the minimum wage is no longer enough for the average Nigerian as salaries get exhausted within the first three days of getting paid.
She added that the average Nigerian is suffering and can no longer afford a three-square meal. She also urged the FG to come to an agreement with the NLC so that all will be fair and just. And if they refuse to increase the minimum wage, then the salaries of Senators should be reduced to N30,000 so they can feel the pain of the average Nigerian.
NLC embarked on strike today, the 3rd of June 2024, after the Nigerian government refused to increase the minimum wage to the proposed amount—N494,000. The union hopes to reach a consensus with the FG soon so that the average Nigerian can afford to live comfortably.
