Nigerian singer Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf popularly known as CDQ has told show promoters to stop calling Nigerian artists out for charging too much.
Recently, show promoters have laid several complaints about Nigerian artists charging huge amounts that are way higher than their budget for shows. This, in turn, erupted conversations online among netizens and music enthusiasts.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, CDQ said every artist is entitled to charging any amount they like because nobody knows how much they've invested in their craft. He stated that promoters shouldn't be calling artists out for overcharging. Instead, they should go after artists that suit their budget.
CDQ said if the promoters feel they cannot get the artist the people would love to see, they should look out for investors who would sponsor them. He said no artist should bring down their worth for any promoter. He expressed that if Nigerian singers want to do a charity show, they would definitely do it for free but this is business.
He added, "These people are running a business. You expect them to be like this and drive this. It's not like they're running a charity program. If they want to do a charity show, they'd do it."
