Strange woman disappears with newborn baby at Lafia specialist hospital

A strange woman who is yet-to-be-identified has stolen a baby from a specialist hospital in Lafia. The incident occurred recently in Lafia. This was on Tuesday the 10th of January 2024. The strange woman stolen a newborn baby boy from the postnatal ward in Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital. The mother of the stolen baby has been identified as Mrs. Wosilat Suleiman. The baby was only a day old as at the time he was stolen. She shared the incident with some journalists the day the incident occurred. She stated that she gave birth to the baby early on Tuesday morning. She gave birth through a Caesarean section (CS).

She revealed that her relative introduced this strange woman to her. She had only met the woman in the ward and then told her this strange woman would take care of her till she came back since she wanted to go home to get something. Her relative had thought the strange woman was also a patient in the ward. This woman then offered to bath her baby but never came back. She had disappeared with the baby. She has also appealed to the authorities to aid her in searching for her baby. In her words “My relative, who was looking after me, introduced a strange woman she met in the ward to me before she left for home to fetch something. She told me that the woman would take care of me and the baby until she returned. The woman said she wanted to bathe the baby, but then disappeared with him,”

The hospital management has also spoken up about the issue. They expressed deep sadness and regret about the issue. He revealed that such happened in their hospital even though their security in the hospital is tight. Dr. Mohammed Salihu, who is the Acting Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of this hospital in Lafia has also confirmed that the incident occurred. He stated that this woman, Wosilat gave birth to the baby around 3 a.m. He revealed that the baby was with both mother and relative before they were moved to the postnatal ward.

They also confirmed that the relative handed the baby to a stranger so she could look after her and eventually, this woman vanished with the baby. The hospital management has reported the incident to the police and the police have commenced an investigation into the matter. The police have also arrested the relative who handed the baby over to the stranger. The police have also invited some of the staff on duty at the time the incident occurred, to the police station for questioning. The hospital has also disclosed that they will review the CCTV footage so as to investigate the matter well.
