Student of UNILAG shot dead over stolen phone

An undergraduate student of the University of Lagos, has been shot dead due to a stolen phone. He was shot by some armed robbers around Harvey Road, Moore Road Junction, in Yaba, Lagos State.

This student has been identified simply as Adekunle. He and his mate, Opeyemi, had entered a shuttle bus going from Yaba to the university.

A man hanging around behind the bus had stolen Opeyemi's phone which was an iPhone 7 plus.

Opeyemi then noticed and raised an alarm and he fled while Adekunle began to pursue this man.

He came down from the bus and ran after him in a bid to recover the phone.

As he gained speed on the robber, another thug who was suspected to work with the robber then came out and shot Adekunle in the head and he died on the spot.

The incident happened around 9pm on the 3rd of June.

Some policemen then came to the crime scene and saw the body of this young guy lying in the floor of the scene. They took his body to the morgue of the Mainland Hospital.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin who is the state Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the news. He said that they have begun an investigation so as to track the culprits and catch them.

They have transferred the case to the SCID, Panti, for discreet investigation
