The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that students with disabilities will not sit for the compulsory post-UTME.
In an interview with Arise TV, the JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the board has set up an equal opportunity group that helps in catering to the needs of disabled students, both Nigerians and non-Nigerians who intend to sit for the exam. He stated that the board has provided support units for students living with disabilities in every tertiary institution in Nigeria.
Starting with the visually impaired and hearing impaired students, Oloyede said the board is going to provide a free application form for those who fall under these categories. He said the board will also ensure to make the questions easier for them to attempt by removing diagrams for visually impaired students so they won't be at a disadvantage.
Oloyede added that they are taking active measures to ensure that students with disabilities don't sit for the Post-UTME. He said the schools will measure their overall performance based on their JAMB scores. Facilities such as audiobooks will also be given to the hearing impaired to give them a better learning experience.
