Tesla to Launch Robotaxi Trial in Austin by June – Musk

Tesla is set to begin testing its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas by the end of June, according to CEO Elon Musk. The trial will start with about 10 self-driving vehicles, scaling up to 1,000 within a few months in select safe areas of the city.

Despite regulatory scrutiny over its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, Musk confirmed Tesla is in talks to license FSDto other major automakers. The NHTSA is currently investigating the software’s safety under low-visibility conditions.

Musk emphasized Tesla’s future hinges on autonomy and the Optimus robot, shifting the company’s focus away from cheaper EVs. He also stated he plans to reduce his political involvement and refocus on Tesla.

Meanwhile, Musk’s AI startup xAI is expanding its data center in Memphis using Nvidia's Blackwell chips. Its "Colossus" supercomputer project is expected to become the world’s largest.

On a possible Tesla–xAI merger, Musk said it's not planned, but not off the table, pending shareholder approval.
