The Aluu 4 lynching is the unfortunate story of four students who were lynched on 5th October 2012 after being accused of theft in a community known as Aluu in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State.
Aluu 4 story
The Aluu 4 lynching involved four friends; Lloyd Toku Mike, Tekana Elkanah, Chiadika Biringa and Ugonna Obuzor. They were all students of the department of geology from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). A person named Bright was owing Ugonna some money. Bright refused to pay him back his money so he sought the help of his friends and together, they decided to storm Bright's house.
The four of them stormed his house in the middle of the night with cutlass, axe, a pen knife and a gun intending to scare Bright. Things didn't go as planned and a fight ensued. Seeing that the situation had escalated beyond his control, Bright started raising false alarms, calling on the neighbors to rescue him from thieves. He lied against the four men saying they came to his house to steal his electronic gadgets. Immediately, the vigilante group in the community was alerted. Before they got there, a mob was already attacking the four men with stones and sticks. They were severely beaten and stripped unclad until they were unconscious.
The mob attack went on for a while. Even when the police arrived, they didn't do anything to salvage the situation as they watched as the mob wrapped their necks with car tyres and bathed them in petrol. A sister of one of the guys, Tekena rushed to the scene of the incident after she heard the news, in a bid to stop the attack but she was subdued by the size of the mob.
Unfortunately, the young men were set on fire and the horrific moment was captured on camera and uploaded on the internet for the world to see. The Aluu 4 lynching that occurred 11 years ago put the Aluu community and the university of Port Harcourt in a state of unrest as the students came out en masse to riot, destroying properties in the area the young men were gruesomely murdered.
Several people were arrested for the death of the young men. The Rivers State High Court sentenced David Chinasa Ogbada, Lucky Orji and Ikechukwu Louis Amadi to death for their involvement in the Aluu 4 lynching.
On 4th February 2023, Linda Ikeji released a movie on Netflix titled "Dark October" to tell the story of the Aluu four lynching and to expose jungle justice in this part of the world.
