The city of Kaduna, formerly known as North Central State is located in Kaduna state in the Northern part of Nigeria on the Kaduna river. Kaduna was formerly the political capital of the Northern region during the British colonial era.
Kaduna State was founded in 1900 by Sir Lord Lugard, Nigeria's governor-general in the colonial era. It was the Northern Region capital from 1954-1967. The city was turned into a state by Gen Murtala Mohammed in 1976. As at 2021, Kaduna state boasts of a population of over 9 million people.
