Nigerian singer Remilekun Abdulkhalid Safaru popularly known as Reminisce has revealed that he had already lost hope when his hit single "Kakobichicken" didn't blow up until six months after its initial release.

Reminisce said assuming his song Kakobichicken didn't gain recognition, he would have done otherwise. He said he took his last shot to stardom when he released the song. He said the intro, "Oh ye rappers, I've moved on to better things. I'll see you in a jiffy" is proof of that.

He revealed that the song didn't gain recognition until several months after its release. He said he had given up already when the song blew up unexpectedly. Reminisce explained that he was at home that day when someone pinged him on his BlackBerry telling him that his song was playing on the radio at Oniru beach in Lagos.

Then he decided to go to the beach to see for himself. He got there and ordered a cheap vodka, sat down and his song started playing. Immediately, tears started rolling down his eyes. On his way home, he said the industry had made a mistake.

Reminisce disclosed that he faced a bigger problem when he wanted to shoot the music video due to lack of funds. One of his friends, Ibrahim, wanted to sell his car for him to shoot the video but he couldn't. He also wanted to sell his property but the budget was beyond their control.

Then he went to meet a certain DJ Tee who offered to help him. He said he had to wear the clothes he had for the video because there was no money to hire a stylist. Reminisce added that he is always surprised whenever young artists say they suffered because his experience as a newbie was extremely bad.

He revealed that DJ Tee didn't collect a dime from him except N350,000 that he paid him for the studio location. Reminisce added that he also faced issues when he wanted to start promoting the music video due to fuel subsidy removal protests that year. He said he was severely beaten on his way coming from the popular TV station Soundcity.

Kakobichicken by Reminisce was released in 2012 off his album Book of Rap Stories. This song shot Reminisce into limelight and it is one of his finest songs till date.
