Tinubu suspends governor of CBN, Emefiele

The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has suspended Mr Godwin Emefiele. Mr Emefiele is the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He was suspended by President Tinubu and it is to take effect immediately.
This is coming after the investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the economy's financial sector, which is still ongoing.
Recall Emefiele was appointed as the governor of the bank on the 4th of June, 2014.
This is according to a statement which was released by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey. This was released yesterday, Friday.
The statement revealed that Mr Emefiele has been ordered to hand over the affairs of his office as governor to the Deputy Governor Immediately.
The deputy governor(Operations Directorate), will then act as the CBN governor until the Investigations and reforms are completed.
Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi is the one CBN listed as the Deputy Director, Operations Directorate.
Some sources revealed that the operatives of the Department of State Services had arrested Mr Emefiele but this is unconfirmed news. Even the spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunaya, mentioned he can not confirm the arrest.
The CBN Act, 2007, in section 14 gives the President the power to terminate the appointment of the apex bank governor, but such an act must have the backing of lawmakers.
