Tottenham Hotspur are hit with another injury setback as Rodrigo Bentancur has been reportedly ruled out for three months after sustaining a serious knee injury.
The Uruguay International was subbed off in 26 minutes during Tottenham's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in what was his first start due to a serious injury that had kept him out of action for eight months.
It was a rough tackle from Matty Cash that took the midfielder down and even after getting treatment on the pitch, the 26-year-old could not proceed which forced Ange Postecoglou to take him off.
According to football insider, Rodrigo Bentancur is now set for another long period on the sideline as he has damaged his ankle ligament.
The treatment could take at least two-and-a-half months which means that he will be out of play until February 2024.
It comes as a massive concussion to Ange Postecoglou, who is already missing a host of crucial players including James Maddison and Mickey van de Ven - following a severe injury crisis.
Tottenham's head coach, Ange Postecoglou had acknowledged following the 2-1 home setback against Unai Emery's Aston Villa that another injury was the last thing the London club needed.
Speaking about the club's recent injury crisis, he said; "That’s the last thing we need, another injury. We’ve got eight (players injured), Bentancur nine. It’s just the situation we’re in at the minute".
"We’ll get through it. It might take a while, but we’ll get through it. I’m sure when you come through the other side, we’ll be a very good football team".
He added; "We’ve just got to make sure the players stay focused on what’s important right now".
Bentancur has joined a lengthy list of Tottenham Hotspur players dealing with injury which includes James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, and Cristian Romero.
Postecoglou's dilemmas will be further increased in January 2024, as Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will depart for international duty for Mali and Senegal respectively for the Africa Cup of Nations games.
Meanwhile, captain Son Heung-min will be competing for Asian Cup glory with South Korea during the same period.
What Next For Tottenham Hotspur?
Postecoglou has a lot to deal with as his side will lock horns against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the Etihad next Sunday, December 3, in the English Premier League.
It has been a terrible November for the north London club as they have undergone three straight setbacks in the Premier League which has dragged them to fifth place in the table. And taking on the defending champions will be another tough test of their current team.
