Truck accident on Otedola Bridge in Lagos leads to death of 1 person

A recent accident which took place on Otedola Bridge in Lagos state has led to the death of 1 person. The victim who died in this accident is a male who is yet to be identified. The accident took place on Otedola Bridge in the Berger area of Lagos State.

This accident occured yesterday morning, Tuesday September 12, 2023. This occured when this truck which was carrying wheat fell and overturned on the bridge. This had occurred during a heavy rain which led to the bridge been flooded on Tuesday.

It was the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesperson who is Taofiq Adebayo who shared this in a statement. He revealed that the victim had fallen off the bridge as soon as the tuck turned. He shared that the boy died immediately.

This accident also caused serious traffic on the bridge as the flooding from the rain had also worsened the roads. He revealed that there were other emergency responders like LASEMA, SEHMU, and some Policemen from the Isheri Police Division at the scene of the accident

The accident had been caused by brake failure and spending under the heavy downpour. At some point the driver was unable to control the vehicle after the brake failed leading to the accident.

The spokesperson revealed “Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck driver could no longer control the truck after noticing a brake failure while on a top speed under the heavy rain”

He shared that they recovered the body of the victim from underneath the Bridge he fell off. His body was then handed over to the Lagos Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU). He also shared that they were eventually able to move the truck away from the road in the evening but this was after they had transferred all the wheat in the truck to another truck. After this, traffic on the bridge cleared up.
