Two young men drown in Ogun River after going for a swim

Two young men had reportedly drowned in a river in Ogun state recently. These men had gone for a swim in the river when this sad incident occurred. The victims have been identified as Femi Akinola and Tunde Falade.

The duo are churchgoers and they had gone to the church for an inauguration and afterwards went to this river to take a swim and there they drowned. This incident occurred on Monday, August 28 2023.

It was the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer who is Omolola Odutola who shared this information in a statement which was released on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

The statement revealed that these two victims had travelled from Lagos state to Ogun state. They went to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, located in Onikoko. They had gone for a church inauguration and then went to take a swim in this river.

The victims were rushed to the hospital when this incident occured but were confirmed dead at the hospital they were taken to. They had been taken to the Ifo General Hospital.

The PPRO, Odutola stated “A member of the church, one Adebayo Adeosun, reported at the station around 6.30pm that some boys numbering about seven who came from Lagos on August 27, 2023, for his church inauguration, left the church premises to swim, and got drowned in the process."
“The two persons who drowned were later identified as Femi Akinola (32) of Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State and Tunde Falade (35) of Kola Alagbado, Lagos, after they were rescued from the heavy tides. They were rushed to the Health Centre in Itori where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.”

He also shared that CSP Olayemi Jacob who is the Divisional Police Officer, had mobilised his team to visit the scene of the incident which was the river. He shared that there was no suspected foul play in the incident neither were there any marks showing violence.
