A top Everton fan and Manchester Mayor Andy Burham has written the Premier League asking for the club's 10-point deduction to be reversed.
Everton were slammed with a 10-point deduction by the Premier League for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules in 2021/22 season.
The point deduction has seen Everton drop from 14th to 19th on the table and now heavily in the relegation zone.
We reported earlier experts have slammed the Premier League for a selective Financial and Fair Play rules enforcement procedure and and have began to question the entire process.
Now, a top Everton fan, ticket-holder , and UK politician Andy Burham has lent his voice to calls for the point deduction to be scrapped and declared null and void.
Burham accused the Premier League for an "abuse of process" in meting out the punishment to Everton.
According to him, the body altered the enforcement procedure midway into the process and as such should have the decision reversed.
"Has there been a fair process? Having taken my time this week to study the judgment and speak to a lot of people I have concluded that there has not been a fair process,’ he told reporters outside Goodison Park on Sunday.
'‘There has been a highly flawed process and I would go as far to say there has been an abuse of the process."
According to The Mail, the framework and rule which saw the Premier League clampdown on Everton was only put in place by the Premier League on August 10, 2023 hence there have been widespread condemnation of the penalty.
Durham particularly pointed out the Premier League instituted the new order to punish Everton hence the decision cannot be said to be fair.
Manchester United have reportedly go scot-free of Premier League handcuffs despite crashing on the same offense for which Everton have been punished.
Everton lost their first Premier League game after the point deduction to Manchester United and are still trapped in the relegation zone.
