Victor Boniface could be back to action for Bayer Leverkusen earlier than expected after his lengthy injury layoff.

Boniface picked up an adductor muscle injury while in Nigeria's Super Eagles preparatory camp for the just-concluded 2023 AFCON.

In a report shared by Complete Sports, Alonso has confirmed the Nigeria international could be back to action for the club as early as March after the international break.

Boniface's projected return to action this month comes against previous estimations that he could be sidelined till April.

Club sources reveal he is out of the crutches and back to grass but his fitness level is being closely monitored by Bayer Leverkusen's medical department.

Before his injury blow, the 22-year-old was leading the topscorers' chart for Bayer Leverkusen. He was the club's main striker, banging 16 goals and providing 8 assists.

Despite his lengthy injury absence, Victor Boniface is still Bayer Leverkusen's topscorer with most goals and assists.

Bayer Leverkusen have continued their push for the Bundesliga title without the injured striker. They are 10 points clear of the Bundesliga table and are in the German Cup and Europa League.

They are the only unbeaten club among the top five leagues in Europe and have equaled and surpassed Bayern Munich's 33-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga.

The return of Victor Boniface will be a big boost for the team, who are closing in on their first Bundesliga title, and also eyeing a historic treble of German Cup, Bundesliga, and Europa League trophies.

According to Alonso, Boniface will be ready for a return to action either in the game against Hoffenheim on March 30 or the German Cup clash against Fortuna Dusseldorf on April 3.
