Wayne Rooney was linked to a switch to a boxing career after his deadlock in the dugouts. The Manchester United legend had a heroic playing career but has struggled as a football manager.
It was thought the former Manchester United forward would quit football management after reports emerged he had spoken with Misfits Boxing about a possible boxing fight.
Addressing rumors of the career switch, Rooney revealed the Misfit Boxing promoter Kalle Sauerland actually got in touch with him for a possible boxing fight but he is focused on football management.
"They've been in touch and asked the question but I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management.
"There's a few, obviously Misfits have been in, and that's been all over the news.
"But I want to get back into management, that is my focus."
After retiring from his storied playing career, Rooney has been the least successful of English former footballers who have tried his hand on football management.
He first took up a job with Derby County as a player-manager before taking up a full managerial role with the club. After a dismal run with Derby County, Rooney resigned from the job and took up another immediately with DC United. In his two seasons with DC United, the club failed to qualify for MLS playoffs. The former Everton player had to settle for a mutual termination of his contract to leave the club.
After his unsuccessful stint with DC United, Wayne Rooney was appointed Birmingham manager. It ended on a sour note again as he had to be sacked after Birmingham slipped from the top six to the drop zone in the English second tier under his watch.
Since his sack by Birmingham City, Rooney is yet to broker another deal. As per reports, Rooney's third unsuccessful stint at Birmingham must have shot the door to another managerial opening in Europe for the England footballing legend.
With a new offer yet to arrive, Rooney was linked to a switch to a boxing career having been an avid fan of the gloves and punches sport since his playing career.
Now, it appears the 38-year-old is still hopeful of still pushing for his managerial career in football as he debunks talks of a switch to boxing.
