We have all failed in ensuring the wellness of our crew, filmmaker Chukwuma Ideh says
Nigerian filmmaker Chukwuma Ideh shares his thoughts regarding the boat accident that claimed the lives of 1 actor and four crew members. He sent his condolences to the affected families, expressing how sad it was for such a thing to have happened. Chukwuma said that negligence from the side of the producer is not a one-person thing in Nollywood. He and other producers have all made similar mistakes in the past and this would serve as a deterrent to prevent future negligence.
He spoke about how there isn't a strong body governing the association of crew members in Nigeria. According to him, there haven't been any arrangements to compensate the families of the four crew members who died in the Anam River, just because they aren't amongst the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN). He took it upon himself to reach out to each family and he found out that the deceased were all breadwinners of their family. These findings brought tears to his eyes, and he had to do the little he could to personally help them and lessen their burden. Chukwuma then called for all crew members working in the Nollywood industry to form an association solely to look after their own in the event of casualties like this.
