The Premier League seem likely to pick up the fifth Champions League place for the 2024–25 season after West Ham defeated Freiburg in the Europa League round of 16.

The David Moyes team lost the first leg to the Bundesliga team by 1-0 but trashed the London team by 5-0 to boost the chances of the rival Premier League teams in their qualification for the Champions League.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are likely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Brighton, Chelsea, Newcastle, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have a renewed hope of securing European football because the eighth-place finish is enough to get a Premier League club into continental football.

*How Are the Extra Spots Decided for Champions League Spots?*
The Champions League has four new places to fill due to the 2024/25 Champions League format.

Two extra places will go to the best-performing leagues in Europe this season. The additional places will go to two nations outside of Germany: Italy, Spain, and England.

This means that the team that finishes in the fifth position in the Premier League table this season will automatically qualify for the 2024/25 Champions League season.

The UEFA Association coefficient ranking, which is based on all European clubs in the competition, decides which two leagues will benefit from the additional spot.

Every win from any football club in a country is worth two points, and a draw is worth a point. Bonus points are given when any team progresses to various levels of the European competitions.

All points earned by each football club in the tournament are added up before they get divided by the number of clubs from that nation in Europe.

In addition, one Champions League place will go to the third-place team in the domestic league ranked fifth in the UEFA coefficient, which is currently France. The last extra spot will move to the qualifying path for the Champions League.

Four teams used to come through the route into the group phase, but from next season on, it will be five.

The current UEFA coefficient ranking

The Italian and German Leagues occupied the two top slots, with the Premier League currently in the third place in the coefficient ranking.

Arsenal and Manchester City qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League; West Ham and Liverpool qualified for the quarterfinals of the Europa League; and Aston Villa are currently in the last eight of the Conference League.

Brighton were the only Premier League team to fail to qualify for the quarterfinals. The Premier League still has five teams in the tournament; Italy has four, and Germany has three.

Serie A has AC Milan, Atalanta, AS Roma, and Fiorentina in the competition. The Bundesliga has Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich.
