According to Comrade Ikharo Attah who is the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the Minister of FCT he reason behind this demolition was to remove all unauthorized buildings so the park can be returned to the original master plan.

There are four (4) public convenience or toilets located at strategic areas inside the park. These toilets in the park are owned and managed by private individuals and require a fee to use. However, despite the availability of this convenience, some have been defecating on the streets in the park.
This is because of the fee to be paid to use the toilet. The fee is a sum of N30 ams some have refused to pay so they defecate on the floor in the park.
