A woman who has been identified as Furera Abubakar was arrested recently for alleged murder of her step son. This woman who is only 24 years old allegedly killed her 4 day old stepson with insecticide. This incident occurred in Bauchi state.

The baby she killed belonged to her co-wife’. This was at Bantu Village in the Ningi Local Government Area in Bauchi State.
It was the Bauchi state Police Public Relations Officer who is Ahmed Wakil, that disclosed this in a statement yesterday, Tuesday.

It was revealed by Mr Wakil, that this baby was born on August 15, 2023 but was killed on the 19th of August by this woman. This incident occurred just 4 days after his birth and before his naming ceremony.

The woman had applied insecticide to the young baby's unhealed umbilical cord thereby killing him. The incident was reported to the police the day the baby died which was the 19th of August, 2023.

The statement Mr Wakil released revealed “Operatives attached to the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested Furera Abubakar, female (24) of Bantu village, Ningi Local Government Area of the state for culpable homicide.

“The incident was reported to the Ningi Divisional Police headquarters on August 19, 2023, which revealed that the four-day-old baby was born on August 15, 2023, and was murdered by the suspect, Furera Abubakar, on August 19, 2023, before the naming ceremony. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a co-wife to the victim’s mother.

“The suspect entered the co-wife’s room with liquid insecticide and applied it to the baby’s unhealed umbilical cord.”

Mr Wakil has also revealed that the suspect, this woman would be prosecuted after the investigation is completed.
