A Nigerian woman, Adeyinka Bilikis Gbadamosi has been sentenced to six months in prison for currency racketeering in Lagos.

The Federal High Court of Lagos in Ikoyi, presided by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke prosecuted and sentenced Mrs Adeyinka Gbadamosi to 6 months in prison for currency racketeering. Adeyinka Gbadamosi was arrested by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at an event in Lagos.

She was arrested on 27th April 2024 and prosecuted on a one-count charge of currency racketeering. Gbadamosi was caught hawking Naira notes worth N897,900 at 10 Degree Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos. Upon her arrest, Gbadamosi pleaded guilty and the money was seized from her. The court declared that the N897,900 now belongs to the state. Adeyemi Gbadamosi was sentenced to six months in prison with the option of a N50,000 fine.

The statement read, "That you, Adeyinka Bilikis Gbadamosi, on the 27th of April, 2024 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, engaged in hawking the total sum of N897,900 in N200 Naira note denomination, with serial numbers 688101 and N500 Naira note denomination, with serial numbers 315501 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 21(4) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2007."
