Xabi Alonso would reportedly prefer to manage Bayern Munich over Liverpool when he exits Bayer Leverkusen in the likely not-too-distant future.

Alonso is focused on ending the season with the Bundesliga league leaders, however, it appears he has made his choice between Munich and Merseyside.

Xabi Alonso is at the center of a massive battle between two gigantic European clubs, following his exploits at Bayer Leverkusen this season.

The Spaniard has been magnificent this campaign, leading the Bay Arena side to a potential German Bundesliga title this term.

Bayer Leverkusen are 8 points clear at the summit of the German top-flight league table and they remain unbeaten across all competitions after 32 games played this season.

Xabi Alonso's side recently smashed Bayern Munich 3-0 on February 10, 2024, a result that had a damning impact on Thomas Tuchel’s stay in Munich.

Following the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, the Bavarians have lost two subsequent matches - losing 1-0 to Lazio and 3-2 to VFL Bochum.

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Bayern Munich confirmed that they had decided to end ties with Tuchel at the end of the season, with Xabi Alonso being the preferred choice to replace the former Chelsea boss.

Speaking on departing the Bavarian giants at the end of the season, Thomas Tuchel said: “We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after the end of this season”.

“Until then, my coaching staff and I will, of course, continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern”.

Anyway, based on a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, he believes Alonso will be more intrigued to become manager of Bayern Munich over Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp will exit the Reds at the end of the campaign, having revealed that he doesn't have the right energy levels to remain at Anfield beyond the 2023/24 season.

Xabi Alonso is also a leading candidate to replace the German tactician, and it will be interesting to see the decision Alonso will take on his managerial career, given that he played for both clubs during his playing career.

Alonso's contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until June 2026, after he was appointed in October 2022, with him guiding the club into sixth place in his first season at the Bay Arena.

During his spell at Bayern Munich, Xabi Alonso won one German Cup, three Bundesliga titles, and one German Super Cup between 2014 and 2017.

The 42-year-old as aforementioned is focused on guiding Bayer Leverkusen to the treble - Bundesliga, DFB-POKAL, and Europa League this campaign, and as such, he wouldn't want to leave the club until at least the end of the campaign.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool have reportedly indicated their interest in handing him the big job, but the decision on his future lies on Alonso's table.
