Nigerian music producer ID Cabasa has told Nigerian artists that they can have a godfather in the industry but they shouldn't allow themselves to be enslaved.

While talking to Hip TV, the founder of Coded Tunez stated that artists don't really need a godfather to be successful in the entertainment world. He said they only need someone to mentor them but the person in question shouldn't take control over their lives.

He mentioned that most times, these so-called mentors may want to plunge their own experiences on vulnerable artists and try to influence their decisions but it doesn't end well.

ID Cabasa said artists shouldn't let their mentors become tormentors because they don't owe anyone any form of loyalty but their music.

He said, "This is the reason why a lot of people are signing the wrong deals, there's a lot of misconceptions. That an artist is relevant over time doesn't mean they have the structure to make it work."

The producer confirmed that there are certain people in the industry often referred to as the gatekeepers. If a certain artist doesn't dance to their tune, such people will make sure the artist is boycotted.
