Young man sentenced sentenced jail for stealing phones in Ekiti State

A young man who has been identified as Emmanuel Ekundayo has been sentenced to jail for stealing phones in Ekiti state.
He is a 23 year old guy and he was arraigned before the court in Ekiti State and then given this jail sentence.
It was an Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court, which is located in Ikere-Ekiti Division who pronounced the sentence on this man.
He was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment for stealing mobile phones.
These phones belonged to some students at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The defendant, Ekundayo claimed to be a student of a polytechnic in Ekiti state,
He was arraigned before Magistrate Dotun Omoteye and this was on one count of stealing.
Temitope Akinbisoye, who is the Public Relations Officer of the University revealed yesterday, Thursday that the defendant had committed the crime on the 17th of July. This was on the University campus.
They were able to arrest him on July 17, 2023, and this was during one of the 1st semester examinations for the 2022/2023 session. The exam was held at the library lecture theater. He had been searching through the bags of students who were sitting for examinations.
Ekundayo pleaded guilty to the offense and he was then convicted. He was also given the option of fine in the sum of N50,000.
The acting Director of Legal Matters in the University, Busuyi Jayeoba revealed that this would serve as a deterrent to others in this category.
