A 14 year old girl recently committed suicide in Lagos state due to abuse from her father and her step mother. This teenage girl has been identified as Desola Adeoye.

She killed herself on Wednesday, August 22 because she had been suffering from abuse from her father and her step-mother. She committed suicide in Shogunle community, in Lagos state.

She had been suffering for a while as her father Sunday Adeoye and his wife who is Desola's stepmother had been abusing her. She then drank insecticide amd killed herself so as to escape this torture.

This was after Desola returned from her summer school lesson and her step-mother had begun to threaten her. Her stepmother had told her that when her father comes back home, he pounce on her.

The young girl had gotten worried by this threat especially due to previous incidents of abuse and she sneaked out of the house. It was after she sneaked out that she drank the insecticide which had been kept in the house.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital but she passed away. The father then came to recover her corpse from the hospital and took the body back home with plans to Bury her secretly.

Their neighbours had then alerted the police operatives from Shogunle Divisional Police station, who came to the house and stopped this.
A non-governmental organisation (NGO) Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) had also been alerted by a neighbour. They had narrated that the teenager and her younger sisters were victims of abuse by their father and stepmother.

They revealed that the Shogunle Community Development Association (CDA) in Oshodi, had warned the parents severally about this.
The Chief Operating Officer, ACVPN who is Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile has also called on Lagos State government, the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Bar Association to rescue the younger siblings of the late teenager, Desola from the care of the parents.
