19 internet fraudsters in Edo state receive jail sentence


19 internet fraudsters in Edo state have received their jail sentence.
They have been sentenced to prison for fraud.

It was Justices Efe Ikponmwonba and M. Itsueli of the Edo State High Court in a sitting, who sentenced these men.

The sitting had held in Benin City on Tuesday the 6th of June, 2023.

It was the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who disclosed this information on twitter on Wednesday.

These 19 convicts include Anyanwu Miracle, Osamwingie Osarenwinda, Timothy Nowamagbe, Collins Iyekeoretin, Nicholas Azeke, Francis Okoliko, Desmond Taiwo, Fidelis Esajini, Justice Aifo, Osahenie Uwoghiren, Marvelous Alakpa, Emmanuel Efetobor, Omokaro Omonefe, Adelike Destiny, Emmanuel Osifo, Promise Uduaghan, Mathias Gbenga, Elvis Onojebe and Atunu Ewomaoghene.

They were charged with fraudulent representation and unlawful possession of fraudulent documents, retention of proceeds of crime by the EFCC.

All of them pleaded guilty to the charges that had been read against them.

The defendant's counsel had pleaded for mercy because they were first-time offenders and had turned a new leaf.
The court then convicted and sentenced them.

The court convicted and sentenced Gbenga, Esajini, Osarenwinda, Destiny, Ewomaoghene, Okoliko, Iyekeoretin, and Nowamagbe to three years imprisonment and were given an option of N200,000 as fine.

Uwoghiren, Azeke, Osifo, Miracle, Efetobor and Aifo, were sentenced to three years imprisonment and an option of a fine of N100,000 each.

Alakpa was sentenced to three years imprisonment or an option of a fine of N300,000.

Taiwo was given two years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000.

Omokaro Omonefe, Promise Uduaghan, and Elvis Onojebe were given three years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000.

The court also ordered that all they had in their possession including luxurious cars, phones and laptops be forfeited to the Federal Government through the EFCC as well as the money In their account balances.
